Date: December 2, 2016
Speaker: Dr. Kai Berger (Caltech)
Location: DBH 6011
Time: 11am – 12pm
Host: Shuang Zhao
Title: Recent Developments in Polarization Approaches to Computer Vision
Abstract: In this talk I focus on recent developments in Polarization-based approaches to computer vision. Among those approaches, I will present a new method to recover scene geometry that include shiny and reflective objects. Further I will give a look on the polarization behavior of glass and transmissive objects and how to use it recover scene objects behind reflective windows.
Bio: Kai Berger is a Caltech Postdoc, affiliated with the JPL Robotics team. He got his Masters and Ph.D. from the TU Braunschweig in Germany under the supervision of Prof. Marcus Magnor. He then went on to join the Oxford e-Research Centre’s Visualization group as Postdoc, where he focused on research at the intersection of Computer Vision and Visualization. After that, he joined the INRIA particle imaging velocimetry team in Rennes, France where he developed GPU-accelerated algorithms for tomographic reconstruction.
