About the Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at UC Irvine is home to a community of world-class faculty, students, and researchers with a passion and curiosity for learning and discovery in virtually every area of computer science and several of its applications. Together with the Department of Informatics and the Department of Statistics, it forms the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, a vibrant community of 100 tenure-faculty, 1,000+ graduate students, and 3,500+ undergraduate students that shape the future by advancing the core and applications of computing.

Currently, the Department has 55 tenure-track faculty, 5 full-time lecturers, 5 research scientists and research associates, and more than 500 graduate students in its doctoral, master of science, and professional master’s programs. More than 2,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in its majors and minors.

The Department enjoys a collaborative and interdisciplinary research culture. It is home to several large-scale research centers that cut across disciplinary silos. Moreover, students often participate in research projects with faculty and researchers in other schools on the UCI campus.

The faculty, students, and alumni of the Department have been on the forefront of the computing revolution and continue to shape the future by advancing computing technologies.
